업다운(Up & Down)의 원리

1. 들어가며
　대부분의 보더들이 초보에서 너비스턴에 들어가면서 업다운에 신경을 쓰기 시작합니다. 이 시기에 “업다운이 없어,” “다운은 있는데 업이 없어.” 등 이와 비슷한 말을 많이 듣습니다. 그에 따라 “왜” 업다운을 하는지 의문을 가지는 분들이 많지만 마땅한 답을 찾기가 쉽지 않았습니다.
　저 자신도 업다운을 연습하면서 여러가지 의문이 생겼었습니다. 사람의 무게는 똑같은데 어떻게 자세의 변화만으로 보드에 압력을 줄 수 있고 해제 할 수 있는 것인가? 처음 얻은 답은 업다운의 낙차를 통한 압력행사라는 것입니다. 체중계 위에 서 있을 때 45kg이던 사람이 갑자기 주저앉으면 약 55kg이나 그 이상을 가르키게 됩니다. 이러한 다운을 통해 힘을 보드에 전달한다는 것인데 이해가 되지 않았습니다. 그 힘은 순간적인 힘이고 우리가 롱턴을 할 때는 그보다 긴 시간 동안 다운을 유지하면서 턴하는데 다운의 유지는 필요 없는 것인가 하고 말이죠.
　이 문제에 관해 한번쯤은 짚고 넘어가는 것도 의의가 있을 듯 하여 이렇게 글로 옮기게 되었습니다. 사관학교에서 배운 지식과 꿀밤님의 도움이 이 글을 작성하는데 많은 도움이 되었습니다.

2. 턴(Turns) = Inclination + Angulation
　먼저 턴이라는 것에 대해 짚고 넘어가 봅시다. 우리가 자전거를 타면서 턴을 할 때 몸을 턴의 안쪽으로 기울여주며 턴을 합니다. 속력이 빠르면 빠를수록 더욱더 몸을 기울여주어야 하지요. 보드에서도 마찬가지입니다. 우리가 턴을 하기 위해서는 몸을 기울여 엣지를 들어주어야 합니다. 몸을 기울여 엣지를 들어주는 것을 inclination이라고 부릅니다. 인클리네이션은 몸 기울기 정도의 엣지각만 얻을 수 있다는 단점이 있습니다. 또한 과도한 인클리네이션은 상당히 제한되어 있는 상황에서만 가능하고 불안정한 라이딩을 초래해서 높은 엣지각을 얻을 수 없습니다.

　하지만 더 빠른 속도로 턴은 해야겠고 그에 따른 엣지각이 필요해서 고안된 것이 angulation입니다. 이것 역시 아래 오토바이 사진과 연계해서 생각하시면 쉽게 이해가 됩니다.

　위 사진에서 보다시피 바이크의 과도한 기울기는 불안정하기 때문에 바이크 자체는 세우고 몸만 안쪽으로 기울여주고 있습니다. 보드에서도 마찬가지로 과도한 몸의 기울기는 불안정하기 때문에 몸은 그대로 세우고 큰 엣지각을 얻기 위해 발목, 무릎, 고관절을 이용하는 것을 앵귤레이션이라고 칭합니다.

　요약하면 턴이란 것은 인클리네이션과 앵귤레이션의 조화라고 할 수 있습니다. 인클리네이션으로만 하는 턴은 작은 모글이나 아이스를 만나면 넘어질 것이고 앵귤레이션만으로 하는 턴은 위의 바이크의 예와 연관지어 생각해볼 때 바이크는 지면에 수직으로 서있고 라이더가 몸만 턴 안쪽으로 기울였다면 바로 밖으로 튕겨나가겠지요. 보드에서는 역엣지의 마수에 걸려들겁니다. 보드의 속도와 경사도에 따라 다시 말해서 보드에 가하는 프레셔에 따라 적절한 엣지의 각을 인클리네이션과 앵귤레이션을 통해 만들어주는 것이 턴의 포인트입니다.

3. 업다운 = 중심의 이동
　앞서 말했듯이 보드의 속도와 경사도에 따라 알맞은 엣지각을 만들어주어야 합니다. 효과적인 엣지각을 만들어주기 위해 앵귤레이션을 써야합니다. 앵귤레이션은 신체의 관절을 굽혀주는 행위 즉 다운입니다. 다운은 단순히 보드 위에서 몸을 내려주는 것이 아니라 보드의 중심을 힐사이드나 토사이드로 이동시켜 몸을 내려주는 것이 중요합니다. 그렇다면 중심을 이동시켜 다운하는 것이 왜 중요한지, 그렇게 했을 때 보드에 어떤 일이 발생하는지 살펴보겠습니다.

4. 중심 이동에 따라 보드에 발생하는 압력의 변화

　위 그림에서와 같이 몸무게가 40kg인 보더가 보드 위에 서있을 때 400N(중력가속도를 10로 가정)의 힘으로 보드를 누르게 됩니다. 이때 보드의 베이스가 땅에 닿는 면적을 대략 2000cm2이라고 가정해봅시다. 이때 우리가 보드에 주는 압력은 압력공식(압력= 힘 / 면적)에 의해 2000Pa=400N/0.2m2이 됩니다.

　우리가 턴을 하면서 중심을 이동시켜 엣지를 들 경우 보드에 가해지는 압력은 다음 그림과 같습니다.

　보더 자체의 무게 400N에 턴할 때 새로 받는 힘, 즉 원심력이 더해집니다. 이 두 힘의 합인 500N이라는 힘이 보드에 가해집니다. 이때 보드가 이 힘을 받는 면적은 유효엣지(보드가 실제 설면과 닿는 부분)로 좁혀집니다. 유효엣지는 면이 아닌 선이니 위의 베이스면적과 비교하면 엄청나게 작아지겠죠. 작아진 면적은 압력 공식에 의해 서 있을 때 보다 훨씬 큰 압력을 보드에 가하게 됩니다. 다시 말해서 몸의 중심의 변화를 통해 보드에 보다 큰 압력을 행사할 수 있게 됩니다.

5. 보드의 속도에 따라 엣지각이 변화해야 하는 이유

　어떠한 힘을 손실 없이 이용하는 법은 그 힘의 방향에 수직으로 받는 것입니다. 우리가 하이백을 로테이션하는 것도 이와 같은 의미죠.

　위 그림과 같이 턴을 할 때 자신의 무게와 원심력을 합한 힘을 보드에 가하게 됩니다. 이때 엣지각이 가하는 힘에 수직이면 동일한 힘의 반작용이 발생해 힘의 평형상태에 있게 되고 그로 인해 안정된 턴이 이루어집니다.

　보드의 속도에 따라 달라지는 것은 원심력입니다. 그러므로 보드에 가하는 힘의 방향이 변하게 됩니다. 자신의 무게와 원심력의 합한 힘을 보드에 전달하고 동일한 반작용의 힘을 얻어 힘의 평형상태에서 원활한 턴을 이루기 위해 엣지각을 상황에 맞게 들어주는 감각이 필요합니다.

6. 업다운의 원리
　지금까지 말한 바와 같이 업다운(주: 여기서 저는 업다운을 weighted, unweighted의 의미가 아닌 자세 자체만을 얘기하고 있습니다.)은 단지 보드의 중심을 변화시켜 보드에 압력을 주기 위한 자세, 즉 수단입니다. 업다운의 낙차나 그 자체가 보드에 압력을 주는 것이 아니라 보드의 중심을 변화시키고 다운을 통해 엣지각을 들어 올려 압력이 전달되는 것입니다.
　다운을 할 때 ‘무릎이 땅에 닿는다,’ ‘엉덩이가 닿는다.’를 중요시 하기 보다 자신이 알맞은 압력에 알맞은 엣지각을 주고 있느냐가 더 이슈가 되어야 할 것 같습니다. 강한 압력을 동반하지 않은 엣지각 세우기는 의미가 없습니다. F1 경주용 차로 시속 30km만 달리는 꼴이랄까요. 압력을 동반하지 않은 엣지각만 세우는 라이딩은 앞서 언급한 힘의 평형문제의 관점에서 볼 때 불안정한 턴이 될 수 밖에 없을 것입니다.

아~ 글쓰기 정말 힘드네요. 예전이 지금보다 훨씬 문장력이 있다고 생각되네요. 아~ 정말 줄어드는 국어실력, 늘지않는 영어실력 ㅠ_ㅜ

프레스의 기본은 허리!...허리로 주어야 강한 프레스가 나옵니다..
더불어 어깨도 같이 해주면 확실하게 됩니다...동작도 다이내믹해지고..
허벅지와 종아리는 버티는 힘에 영향이 큽니다.
물론 더 나아가서는 밴딩턴이 응용되서 허벅지로 밀어내는 프레스도 하게 됩니다..--..
